Nursery decoration

When my husband and I eagerly anticipated the arrival of our baby, creating a nurturing nursery became a top priority on our to-do list. As first-time parents, we embarked on a journey of exploration and discovery to gather ideas for the perfect nursery. Today, I would like to share with you the essential items we found to be must-haves for a well-equipped nursery.

Let's Start with the 5 Nursery Must-Haves

1. Crib or bassinet

Undoubtedly the most crucial piece, the crib will be your baby's sleeping sanctuary for the initial years of their life. Prioritize safety by selecting a crib that complies with all safety standards. Here are some crib safety tips provided by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).

Here is the crib we chose, Storkcraft Portofino 5-in-1 Convertible Crib. It also comes with a changing table that is the next must-have below.

2. Changing table

A convenient spot for diaper changes and dressing, the changing table should be ergonomically suitable for you and offer ample storage for essentials like diapers, wipes, and clothing.

Some cribs come with a changing table and storage, like the one we chose above. There are more types of changing tables, which we will discuss separately.

3. Dresser/Storage

Opt for a dresser with multiple drawers to keep your baby's clothes, linens, and belongings organized. If you don't already have a changing table, you can look for one that also doubles as a changing table with a top surface.

You'll need plenty of storage space for all of your baby's things. Consider using baskets, bins, and shelves to keep things organized. Below is the beloved Lovevery Montessori Playshelf.

4. Nightlight

During those nighttime feedings and diaper changes, a soft, non-distracting nightlight is indispensable. It will enable you to see your baby without disturbing their sleep.

5. Diaper pail

To maintain a hygienic environment, a reliable diaper pail is a must-have. Look for one with a lid to contain odors and ensure it is easy to empty when needed.

Here are some additional nursery items that come highly recommended by parents:

1. Mobile

A mobile can be a soothing and entertaining addition to your baby's nursery. Look for one that is suitable for their age and made of soft, non-toxic materials.

2. Books

Reading books is not only a bonding activity but also a wonderful way to introduce your baby to new concepts. Choose age-appropriate books that align with their interests.

3. Playmat

A soft and non-toxic playmat provides a safe space for your baby to play and explore. Look for one with various textures and colors to stimulate their senses.

4. Rocking chair or glider

A comfortable chair is essential for nursing or reading to your baby. Opt for a chair that suits your comfort needs and has a gliding feature for gentle rocking.

Although many parents strongly recommend having a rocking chair, I would argue it is a nice-to-have, not a must-have, especially for those who already own an ergonomic office chair or a comfortable recliner. I will discuss it in a separate article.

5. Baby monitor

A baby monitor allows you to keep a close eye on your little one, even when you're in another room. Choose a monitor that offers clear audio and video capabilities. Check out this article I wrote about choosing a baby monitor.

This is what we use, Cubo Ai Plus Smart Baby Monitor.

6. Bluetooth speaker

Having a Bluetooth speaker in the nursery allows you to play calming music or lullabies for your baby. Select one that is easy to connect with your devices. Many "baby sound machines" also offer the nightlight function.

By considering these additional items, you can take your baby's nursery to the next level of functionality and comfort. Say goodbye to the ordinary and hello to an extraordinary nursery experience! These magical additions will bring a touch of wonder to your baby's world. From playful mobiles that dance and twirl to clever storage solutions that maximize space, get ready for a nursery that's truly one-of-a-kind. Embrace the power of these special items and watch as your baby's nursery transforms into a realm of pure awesomeness. Get ready to elevate your nursery game and create a space that's beyond imagination!
